Living into Our Unalienable Rights

We, the people, have the power to create the lives, communities, and world we most deeply want. 

We, the people, have the power to create lives, communities, and a world of peace, abundance, joy, and freedom for all.


This isn’t wishful thinking. It’s the truth.

It’s not a Utopian fantasy.  It’s a practical reality.

It isn’t woo-woo.  It’s concrete, sensible, sound.

In fact, it’s what America was founded upon.

I’m bombarded by people, articles, news stories, and overheard conversations that express the belief that creating a world that reflects our deepest truths and highest aspirations as human beings is some sort of impractical, un-American, unreachable pipe dream.  My assertion that we can literally create this New World together is often dismissed as too idealistic or just plain impossible, even though I’m offering a viable way for us to do it. Those who mean well (and those who don’t) constantly remind me that all the problems and all the darkness in the world are too formidable to be overcome by such feeble-minded notions as peace, abundance, joy, and freedom for all.

Good thing the founding fathers didn’t think that way.


In the Declaration of Independence, they wrote:
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Here, they’re not only saying we have equal, unalienable rights endowed by our Creator to life, liberty, and happiness.  They’re saying (and demonstrating) that, by drawing on the Laws of Nature and the power of our Creator, we have the power to do it.

So, the question is not whether my work to empower us to create a world that reflects our deepest truths and highest aspirations as human beings is too idealistic.  It’s whether we have the courage to actually live up to the ideals our founding fathers put forth in the first place. 

Journey to the Center of Everything
In this blog post, I’m going beyond flag-waving and history books to explore what I believe our “unalienable rights” really are, and the deeper perspective of what it means to live up to them.  In my next post, I’ll share specific ways the Creating the New World movement design empowers us to do that and literally create the world we TRULY want in a way that is TRULY of the people, by the people, for the people (and all life), with the planet.

Here we go...
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Hundreds of years ago, these deep insights of a small group of revolutionaries set in motion the creation of a New World that would draw on and honor the Laws of Nature and the innate power we all hold simply by being alive—the power of our Creator. If you are here on the planet with life force running through you, you have this power.  Period. This is what is meant by the “self-evident” truth that all men are created equal, and that we are endowed by our Creator with the unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

Now, You’ve Done it!
By tapping into these fundamental forces as the foundation for the new nation they were creating, these revolutionaries tapped into something far greater than any concept of “nation,” far deeper than politics, religion, language, or culture, and far more powerful than anything that divides us. They tapped into the power and intelligence that created All That Is—the same power and intelligence that has managed to create and keep an infinite universe of unfathomable beauty, diversity, and complexity together in perfect, life-giving harmony.  For eons.

Once they based their new nation on unalienable rights and power “endowed by our Creator,” they initiated a quest to create an outer world that reflects the power and beauty of what is deepest and truest within us—the energy of our Creator. When they wrote this aspiration directly into the Declaration of Independence, they gave us the energetic foundation upon which to build this New World.

 
Whether they knew it or not, they’d just called humanity to live in alignment with our own divinity.

We’ve been trying to live up to it ever since.


Calling in the “Big Guns.”
Notice they didn’t say our power and rights were “endowed by our government,” or, “endowed by our religions, nationalities, employers, money, social status, genetics, or other people.”  They said, “endowed by our Creator.”   This was no accident. They knew Life, Liberty, and Happiness could not be sustained by any limited, temporary, or external source.  So, they based the new nation on the only power source capable of such a feat:  The unlimited, permanent energy of the Source of All.

In essence, they were telling us that the “keys to the Kingdom,” the keys to Life, Liberty, and Happiness, and the keys to democracy are the same keys, and that these keys reside within each of us.

Living into our unalienable rights means discovering this ourselves and creating an external world that reflects the power and beauty of the Creator within us.

It’s All About You.
Discovering this yourself is simple and practical.  For instance, if you look inside your very own heart for the power, intelligence, and unalienable rights endowed by your Creator, not only will you find limitless power to create, you’ll also find the energy of peace, abundance, joy, and freedom.  On the other hand, if you look out into the world for the power, intelligence, and rights endowed by governments, religions, employers, etc., you’ll find limited power and the energy of violence, scarcity, fear, and oppression.

Which of these scenarios sounds like the life, community, nation, and world you TRULY want?  Which one sounds creative and which one sounds destructive?  Which one sounds sustainable and which one doesn’t?  Which one reflects the power of our Creator and which one doesn’t?

There’s no politics or religion at the center of these questions. There’s only you. You ARE holding the key to everything.  We all are.  The question is whether we’re willing to align with who we TRULY are and what we TRULY want to create a world that reflects the true power residing in our very own hearts. It seems like such an easy decision:
Do we create what is in our very own hearts or do we create the opposite?

Who’s Driving This Bus, Anyway? 
Somewhere along the way, as a human society, we traded the inclusive, expansive rights endowed to us by our Creator for the exclusive, limited rights endowed to us by our institutions, money, status, and other external sources.  If we personally didn’t have those things, we entrusted or defaulted to people who did.  Our power—already diminished by trading real power for false power—was now even more diminished because it was externalized in and entrusted to a relatively few people.

Obviously, it’s not working.  Why would it?  After all, how could trading inclusive, expansive, creative power for exclusive, limited, destructive power result in anything except exclusion, limitation, and destruction?  Not surprisingly, after generations of drawing on the power of money, status, and power over people, institutions led by a relative few—those with money and status—now appear to hold all the power, and with it, the keys to humanity’s future.

But, they really don’t.  The tremendous power endowed by our Creator didn’t go anywhere. We may have misplaced the keys for a few generations, but its still there.  Friends don’t let friends drive drunk, especially when they’re about to drive a huge bus with all of us on it off a really high cliff.  So, let’s help each other reclaim our more powerful power and together take back the keys to our own future.

The keys that are within us...
The keys to the "Kingdom;"
The keys to Life, Liberty, Happiness;
The keys to  democracy;
The keys to the future of the human species.

This is no pipe dream.
